Hey
Of course everything varies as one family may consume power, food and transport at a different that than one family
Others will soon provide comparisons but this website is really helpful and helped us in deciding what town to live in when moving to Canada.

Rent: $1000 a month for something basic. Start there and keep adding: Transportation (want a car, or are you OK with public transport?), food, clothing, medicine (no pharmacare yet!), utilities, cellphone bill (not cheap in Canada!).

Depends on where you live in Toronto, yet for the most part the rent will be the bulk of your expense. basement accommodations also cost around 1000$ plus in downtown and midtown. What you get for lesser than that is not suitable for family of 2 or 3. to add to that your food, travel as you would be applying and interviewing. Difficult to get a rental apartment without credit score and job. Anyways my expense as a single person was around $1600/ month ( this included shared airbnb, phone, food, travel and occasional "outings" drinks and stuff).
