Forget all this, I'll give you a basic idea for 1 person for 1 month

Rent $1000 for 1 bedroom in a good neighborhood, avoid Jane and Finch and Malvern, (area where low lives reside)
Grocery $200
Transportation TTC $110
Clothes $100
Misc $500 (laundry, eating out, recreation)

Not sure about one, but my boyfriend and I live together and this is pretty much how our bills are. (Note: We live in a rural area so prices are probably cheaper)

Rent: $800 but about to be $700 (includes heat and water)
Food: $250
Transportation: $240 for me and about $520 for both of us (we own cars but have to pay insurance and gas only)
Misc: No idea cause I don't keep up with it, but I'm gonna say that it's about $450 a month for us both since we stay in more than we go out to cut costs and save money for the future.

I think the person mentioned in Toronto, which rural area in Toronto do you live?

Oh yeah that probably has to do with it also. We don't live in Toronto, we live in Alberta like 20 minutes from Grande Prairie.

Toronto is too expensive and Alberta has no GST so taxes here are lower. So if you can move, I'd say to settle in Alberta.

Rent pretty much depends on where you live. But $700 is a starting point (very low end). For apartments that are more central and/or are close to subway you probably pay more around $1,000.
My car insurance costs over $200 per month (which is a common rate for newbies in canada without US history). Gas is currently at $1.28/l (reg) and 1.40 (premium), which makes me paying between $150-200/month on top.
I do not know how people survive on $200 to $250per month (~$7/day) for food. We spend about $10-15/day for food - however, we use fresh stuff and dont use the cheapest ingredients...
