I an Australian citizen.I am a resident in usa,but my common law Dominican husband of 12 years and I want to go to Canada. We live in the Dominican Republic with our three kids, they are American. He has never been to the USA.What can I do if I move to Canada to bring him there. How long will it take me to become a resident and as a commonlaw country what are my rights?

1. You have to apply like everyone else, commonwealth means nothing.
2. You have to qualify and in your case you probably need at least one years experience in an occupation on the list of "38" http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/media/backgrounders/2008/2008-11-28a.asp
3. If neither you or your spouse's have an occupation on the list, you are pretty well out of luck, unless you qualify under one of the Provincial programs. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/provincial/apply-who.asp
