I'm considering moving from Portugal to Canada (preferably Toronto or Ottawa as they're the only major cities I've been to as a tourist). What are the opportunities in such cities for a someone with two degrees (Bsc and Msc) in Music Production ? I'm talking about recording studios, live sound, post production, etc.
Thanks !

To the best of my knowledge this is a very competitive industry (i.e. more people looking for jobs than jobs available). You don't say if you have PR and/or how many years of experience you have.

If you have PR and have a decade of experience (in addition to your education), then I think that will certainly be to your advantage and will make it easier for you to enter this industry here.

If you have little to no experience and no PR status - I think you'll probably find it extremely challenging to find a position.

and PR in this case would stand for.. ?
I've worked 2 years as a live sound engineer and been working as a freelance recording engineer for the past 3 years.

PR = permanent resident of Canada

If you are a PR, it means you are legally allowed to work in Canada.

If you are not a PR or a citizen of Canada, then you need a work permit if you want to work in Canada. To get a work permit, your employer first needs to obtain an approved LMO. As part of this process, the employer must prove they advertised the job and were unable to find a Canadian to hire for the role. Many employers aren't willing to go through the LMO process because it takes too long, there's too much paperwork and there's no guarantee of approval at the end.
