Hi guys. I'm an artist, and I already work for some companies out of my country online. Can I work as a freelancer to a canadian publisher without problems? With publishers of the USA its not a problem, but I dont know about the canadian market.
I want to focus in canadians publishers, because I'm planning to immigrate in the next few years (I'll apply next year) and I want to make a good relationship with those already.

A consultant said that, as I already have some awards, my immigration can go easily, but do you guys know some artists (not world level) that already immigrated without many problems?

Thanks in advance.

Yes - you can work for a Canadian publisher from your home country.

I'm not sure I necessarily agree with your consultant that the process is going to be easy for you. How has the consultant suggested that you will apply through which program? Does he say that you'll need a permanent job offer in Canada to qualify? If your consultant can't answer these questions in detail then you may want to think twice about working with him/her.

Through self employed. He said I dont need a permanent job offer, but I do want to get one after I arrive... When you work with a publisher you can get a "name" faster.

Self employed is a very difficult category to qualify through. If you are world class (i.e. you are a recognized name in your industry) then your chances of success are very good. Otherwise it's difficult to say if CIC will approve you. The processing times for this category are also unfortunately very long (many years).

If there's any chance you can secure a job offer with an employer in Canada - this would be a far more certain means of immigrating.

Self employed is a toss up. It might work - it might not.
