So, I just found out that because of the phone plan that I have with Cogeco, I cannot get any access at all to my phone records between my fiance and I unless we have a court order, or police request!
Stupidly, we also never thought of saving our chat logs...because at the time when we had started chatting, we never thought that we would need them.

We have tons of e-mails, photos, comments from the site we met on that we've screen capped and organized, proof from our trips back and forth....cards, photos of him mixed in with my family over the Christmas holidays...

But now we don't have chat records OR phone records...and I have very few actual reciepts.

How much of a problem is this going to be?

Hi Brightredscream, I never sent any of those... I only sent all the cards and pictures we had from our relationship while we were living together in the UK .... I guess it depends on how much time you spent apart up until you sent in the application. If you can load up the package with items that you have from your time together, I would like to think that should prove your relationship! :)

We met online, and we've been together for almost two years...
So hopefully what we have will do it.

Gotcha. Fingers crossed for you!! Mine hasn't been confirmed yet, here's hoping it will be soon!

Thank you! I hope yours will be too!

We have tons of photos with him with my family etc.
Lots of e-mails, trip confirmations, cards....

Just explain in the application why you don't have phone records and chat logs, and then increase the amount of other proof of a genuine relationship that you send.

By the way, if you request your phone records from the company by letter, and get a letter refusing to release the records to you, you can include both letters in your application as proof that at least you did try to get your phone records. This is better than simply not mentioning them, as it shows you do in fact have phone records, the company just won't give them to you.

I didn't even think of that! Thank you!
I will call them back, and ask for them to send me a letter so I can include that :)

I'm thinking that we have a lot of messages that we've screen capped and compiled from the website that we met on, lots of photos - including A LOT of just random candid ones that family snapped of us sitting around at Christmas...luggage tags, e-mails....tons and tons of e-mails...cards...
I may be able to get proof from my cell phone company about texts I've sent him and the few times I called him from my cell....

I'm thinking that what we have would provide enough proof that we have a legit relationship.

Would letters from family members who have met him work as well?

All of this is good proof.
Candid photos are the best ones. So often people only have posed photos, and of course at a wedding that is perfectly natural, but the visa officers also want to see candid photos. I read one appeal case where the judge rejected the couple's photos because they were all posed. The judge thought they looked staged and were just taken to make it look like a real marriage.

It sounds like you have more than enough proof.

Letters of support from family and friends are very good too. For a common-law application, two have to be affidavits. For an application where the couple is married, no support letters are actually necessary, but they can help if you feel you don't have enough evidence. It also shows that your family supports the relationship, which the visa officer is looking for. The letters of support can be letters, emails, or affidavits. Try to get some from both sides.

You can't get your phone bills with numbers on them from within Canada because of the Privacy Act. This is for any company within Canada. I sent obly the ones where I dialed him, no incoming numbers were shown, also I got my husband to send me his phone bills since his country doesn't have the privacy act, all the numbers are shown. As other people suggested Skye is a good alternative, chat logs, e-mails (if you do that) ect.

I can't access any of the numbers - I'm the one who solely calls him, because my long distance is free...
And like I mentioned, we kinda dropped the ball on saving our chat logs :-[

I'm hoping that what we do have is enough evidence.

I didn't save my chat logs either (who would have thought someone would be asking to read my private conversations with my spouse), don't stress. What I suggest is start saving them now. Send some e-mails and letters through post just as evidence. Worst case scenerio is that you get an interview, and then you have these documents for this. And for good mesure this forum is always about walking on the side of caution, write a small message that states due to the Privacy Act, your company wont give phone bills that show the exact number called. I am sure that CIC is running in to this issue all the time, and for sure they are aware of the Privacy Act cuz they like to throw it around alot when talking to clients. :)

Thank you :)
That was exactly why we didn't save chat convos - we never thought that anyone would NEED to read those down the line you know? LOL
I have turned on the save chat feature now though to be sure that we at least have some documentation.

I'm thinking that what we'll have will be enough proof, especially with my family vouching that they've met him, and that they're aware of the relationship, and how long we've been together etc.

Best of luck, stay positve. Trust me when I say I didn't think of half the stuff people are mentioning in this forum and I will I would have found this place sooner. Now I am just obsessive when it comes to collecting, I am think well if they want it, they will get in sooner or later, I will bury them in proof. LOL! It's difficult to me that I have to prove to people we are genuine, but you do what you have to do. :)
