Are Exemptions available for Immunization Requirements for Canadian PR App?

Hi,

I've searched through the forums, but I can't find a similar question to mine:

I'd like to know if there are exemptions available for the immunization requirements for those applying for Canadian Permanent Residency? And if so, what do I present when landing?

Our minor child has not been vaccinated, and while I know that it is recommended, I also know that Canadian citizens are not legally required to get vaccinations, and only a few provinces mandate it, and even those still allow for Conscientious or Religious exemptions. But I don't know if immigrants are treated differently.

I know that the decision to not vaccinate is a hot-button issue, but I'm really only trying to find out if this would be a reason for a Permanent Residency application to be denied, and to see if anyone has had any similar experience?

Our child is already enrolled in a Canadian school, and the exemption papers have already been filed with the provincial school board. We are here under work permits, and are in the process of applying for Permanent Residency.

Immunization is not a requirement for immigration, but is the requirement of life of every child.

Your question infact gave me a shock. I wonder weather I will be able to sleep tonight. I was not knowing that the school boards in Canada are exempting students from immunization on religious grounds. For my kid they gave me notice that If I do not get booster doses within a fixed time my kid would be suspended from school as it can endanger fellow students. So in order to keep the religious sentiments of some students they are endangering the life of other students. I am going to call my kids school tomorrow to know how many children are attending school with exemption from immunization, definately the matter is not going to end here.

Unless it's changed since 2009, there are no vaccine requirements for Canada, just recommendations. It is against the charter for vaccines to be mandatory in Canada.

As for the....ill informed reply to the original post, only 3 provinces even require an exemption for vaccines for school and they are very easy to get. It is against the law to require medical treatment, which is what vaccines are. You don't need ANY reason except that you don't want your child shot full of toxic chemicals that even the manufacturers admit have never been tested for whether they cause cancer, fertility issues or mutations. You do not need to get a booster. You need to get a booster or tell them you aren't vaccinating and submit an exemption form if you live in one of the 3 provinces that require one.

They are absolutely NOT a requirement for school, much less life. In fact, the more vaccines which are given, the higher a country's infant mortality rates. I'm trying very hard to be polite here, but you really need to educate yourself.

I am in a similar situation as you were in regarding vaccination, except our daughters are not yet school age. I am wondering if this will be a problem when my husband applies for a work permit here soon. How did it turn out for you? Thanks so much!

Each parent has to make an informed decision for their child. Be careful of the source and bias when doing your research. Weigh up the actual risk/benefit. Look at the individual diseases that immunizations can protect your child from and the consequences of getting them. What effects can your child end up with afterward - deafness, brain damage, infertility, to name a few. Be sure you are comfortable with that aspect of the decision. Would your child understand your reasons for not choosing to immunize him or her when they grow up? I have been surprised in a number of instances where 15 year olds were given the information and gave their own consent to get their Tetanus/Diphtheria shots even though they knew their parents were not in favour of immunization. Talk to your doctor or public health nurse. I am definitely in favour of immunization and I have known a few parents who are not. Unimmunized children are protected somewhat by the many children who ARE immunized, it is called herd immunity. If most are immunized there is less chance for the unimmunized child to get the disease. If your child is not immunized, be prepared for them to be excluded from school during a measles outbreak. (Mumps and meningitis also seem to go in waves.) If your child ultimately goes to University or school in the US, they will not be admitted until they are fully immunized.

This is incorrect. Exemption is allowed within the U.S. school and universty system. No point in arguing, because my four siblings and myself were never vaccinated, and we went through grade school, high school and college.

Thank you for correcting me. I was going on the knowledge that I have provided many immunization records to Canadian students desperate to get their applications accepted at US institutions. Is it possible that the US demands this of incoming students?

Form I-160 will allow a waiver of the immunization requirements for US immigration, and the US institution is required to provide the correct form for exemption when requested. But it is not something they advertise.
