I wrote this today, I hope it helps.

It is evident that at present, people spend a considerable amount of time shopping. While there is no doubt that the tendency for people to go shopping is associated with a number of limitations, it is nevertheless beneficial in a number of ways that far outstrip its associated downsides.

The preponderance of shopping centres in most cities, now spur people to take up shopping as an important sundry activity. This trend nonetheless comes with a number of drawbacks including: firstly, the possibility of shoppers buying what they eventually would not need. Characteristically, people who are obsessed with leisure shopping are constantly at the receiving end of impulse buying. This is made easy by the rather alluring display of products- a kind of subterfuge to hoodwink shoppers. A person for example, whose intent is just an adventure or window shopping, end up buying out of budget. Secondly, it adduced that, most times spent on frivolous shopping could be diverted into other more productive activities. For instance, one could go for a walk-out than engage in an aimless shopping.

Having said all that, shopping discourages sedentary lifestyle. The ubiquity of being indoor appears to be one of the most challenging social conundrum, responsible for most debilitating maladies, including obesity and diabetes. Therefore, going to shopping centres downplays the possibility of a sedentary living. In addition, going to shopping malls would promote healthy social relationships. This is because, typically, shopping centres provides a conducive platform for making and building social and business friendships. This promotes the social side of our society.

On the whole, while the argument is justifiable to a certain extent that engaging in shopping could be counterproductive, suffice it to say however, that this trend promotes our social life as well as a healthy living

My cue card was:

A time you bought something that you ended up not using

What was it?
Why did you buy it?
Why did you not use it?
