I'm looking for a possible explanation as to why a person would not be notified of a change in status of an approved eTA. Upon boarding a flight to Canada, he was denied.

In checking online status for this eTA, it says 'approved' but it also says in the comment section and this is the info that was not passed onto this person, 'following an assessment of your file, it has been determined that you no longer meet the requirements for an eTA ......'.

I'm Canadian, also an employer and for almost 4wks have been working with this young person to have him come here and apply for a work permit at POE. Since our LMIA is again nearing expiration, this was the quickest and seemed the simplest way to proceed until this hiccup happened.

I've called the eTA status centre several times to speak with someone, always unable to even get 'on hold'. There's no option to do that, it disconnects. I was able to check the status of his second eTA application done on Nov2 after boarding was denied which has not been started but a reference was made that a request for additional documents was issued in Feb 2018. Months before he first applied. Makes no sense.

Explanations, suggestions, all welcome.
Thanks.

IRCC will send an email if there's been a change to the eTA status. Typically what we find has happened in these situations is that the individual holding the eTA missed the email or deleted it without understanding the significance or the email ended up in their spam box (and was never seen).

Are you sure you're getting the full story from your employee? Someone was just on here the other day with an almost identical story. They had applied for an eTA at the start of the year, had received a request for further info in Feb which they didn't respond to - and then applied for another eTA very recently which was first approved and then subsequently canceled because the request for info from Feb hadn't been addressed. I'll try to find that discussion.

I'm hoping it's your first thought and not your second. Even then, it doesn't make sense with his first application date.
As to getting the full story, he was suggested by someone who I don't believe would jerk us around and I called another employer in the same field who gave him a more than decent reference in regards to experience and character.

Yeah, if you could find that discussion, it would be appreciated.
We've had more than our share of challenges with the foreign worker program.

We are assuming that the individual is the holder of a current, valid, visa-exempt passport and this exact passport number was used in the eTA application.
We've seen eTA cancellation due to passport renewal.

Mexican passport which expires 2021. I was able to access online the status of both eTA applications with the information I was given from him so the numbers must match. If I'm understanding correctly.

The 'temporarily' approved eTA had an expiry date of one day before the passport expiry date.
Thanks.
