Applying Visitor Visa by using friend/classmate’s invitation letter!

I am planning to apply visitor visa in May for my family to visit Canada and my friend in June.

Anyone can advise for applying visitor visa using invitation letter from friend/classmate who is PR in Canada?
Is there a chance to get the approval during this time.
