Hello everyone,

I want to sponsor my husband from Hong Kong. I am a Canadian citizen, he is in HK now. I'm going back there to get married in September.

I know it's faster to apply outland, but I want to make sure he can travel to Canada to be with me even though we are applying outland. We are from a visa exempt country, so he can come for 6 months without a visa.

I'm kind of confused about what to do, so any advice would be very helpful!

thanks!

He can come to Canada as a visitor. He should be clear that he is just visiting. He should have a return ticket with a specific date, proof of ties to Hong Kong, and proof of the PR application (if you will have submitted it before he comes to Canada). Usually people in these circumstances are allowed in, and will be given 6 months. The border agent might give him less time. In any case he can apply to extend his stay about one month before it expires.

You can apply to sponsor him outland, even if he comes to Canada as a visitor.
