Applying independently while family application for PR is in process

Hi,
my dad applied for canadian PR for the entire family, 5 years ago from India and they recently asked for more information. My concern is that even though my dad has 85 points, he is over 50 now, and its been over 6 months and CIC hasn't requested us to go for medical yet.

Meanwhile I on my own now have enough points to apply independently. Since I am young, hold a canadian degree in computer science and am more easily employable there, I was thinking of applying on my own.

Is it ok to have 2 concurrent applications in process? If I apply on my own, will I be removed from my dad's application?

i am no expert in this area but i do not see why you cannot send in application yourself independently. goodluck
