Hey,

I am a Canadian Citizen born and raised in BC. Two years ago I came to Zambia, Africa and married my wife (Zambian). Just recently we had our first child. February 2011, before we were married we tried 2 times to apply for a Visitors Visa for my then future wife to meet my family in Canada, she had already met my mother and father as they had previously traveled to Zambia. In Feb we were denied both attempts because I believe regulation 179.
Now because the situation has changed drastically do you think we have a better chance of being accepted. We are currently working on a Spousal Sponsorship, it has not yet been submitted. We were married here in Zambia and also our child was born here. My wife is also studying at the University of Zamiba.
My sister in Canada is getting married in October, is there anyway we can make it for the wedding?
My son less then two weeks old does not have his birth certificate yet, I applied but it takes a month here in Zambia. Without it I can not apply for the Citizenship Certificate. Is my son allowed to travel on my passport or he has to have his own?
I really hope we will be able to go and see the wedding but am worried that the timing is just not in our favor. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

From CIC's perspective, your situation hasn't drastically changed and I think it's unfortunately extremely likely the TRV will be refused again. If anything, your wife's chances of being approved are now lower due to the birth of your Canadian son and the fact you are working on a sponsorship application. This demonstrates even stronger ties to Canada than she had before (which is often a reason for refusal). All the same, I would try applying for the TRV based on the upcoming wedding and hope for the best.

so pretty much there isn't that great of a chance. Should we just wait to submit the spousal sponsorship, because don't you get a lower chance if something is refused already? So if a TRV is refused will that affect the chances of obtaining a Spousal Sponsorship?

It annoys me sometimes how the system affects those who are genuine and only because people who go with TRV and end up staying in Canada. Just wish my wife and child could visit our family in Canada...

The TRV refusal will have no impact on the spousal sponsorship.

And yes - unfortunately you and your wife are paying the price for all those who have abused the system in the past. I personally blame the abusers and not the system. Because no matter what the system, abusers will find a way to ruin it for the rest of us.
