APPLYING FOR VISIT VISA/ EXPIRING PASSPORT

My friend's sister in law applied for a visit visa from the Philippines. Her passport will expire August next year. Is there a chance that she will get a multiple visa even the passport is expiring.?
We saw on CIC Website that more people are being approved for a multiple visa, will it be applicable with her? I know it is still depends on the visa officer... but maybe some of you has a similar experience.

We've seen a recent instance of someone being issued a MEV TRV for his passport validity of 6 months.... or in one case, it was for an even shorter validity

1. CIC could issue a multiple entry TRV, but probably only to the date of the passport expiry.
