Hi There,
My girlfriend has been living with me since August 2013 in BC, Canada. BC's common law is 2 years and Canada's is 1 years. For applying for common law sponsorship will CIC use the Federal definition or BC's definition?
Second question is: We were looking at the processing times for inland vs outland; my partner doesn't want to waste time so we're thinking about applying a student visa first. Does that conflict or can we submit both at the same time? Would she be disqualified for outland if she gets her student visa and she lives in Canada? From my research it seems that CIC doesn't care where you are for outland as long as you can make the interviews in the home country. For the record, I am a Canadian citizen while my partner is from Hong Kong; (7 months application time!!??)
Anyone have experience with this? Advice? What we're really looking for is the best way for my partner to be able to work as soon as possible here in Canada, while going ahead with permanent residency.
Confused Canadian!
