Applying for PR while residing in another country

In summery, let me know if I understood it correctly: if I apply for the PR inside Canada and then left the country until I get the PR status, I have to stay in Canada for one year when I returned to apply for the PR card, but if I apply from within Canada and stayed on a Canadian soil, I can apply for the PR card immediately after getting the PR status?

I have started my processing for PR from India but right now I am in UK .I have sent my medicals when I was in India .How can I continue my processing .Please reply.
