Hi everyone,

I have a question regarding whether I could apply for PR after one year into my Master's program, since it is funded with research assistantship that covers all my tuition. Would this count as a "job"?

I have obtained my high s hool diploma and bachelor's in Ontario and now proceed to pursue a Master, but I was wondering what would be my best option in terms of applying for PR.

Also, if I work part time during my Master's, can they be counted towards the work hours required? I am in the field of engineering.

Thanks in advance!

Any work experience gained while studying (either part time during the school year or full time during summer breaks) cannot be counted towards CEC.

Any work experience gained while studying does not count. You can apply for a postgraduate work permit after you are done your MA and apply for PR after 1 year of working full time or the equivalent in part-time hours.

there used to be FSW1(until 2009) category where any international student who has lived and studies for atleast 1 year could apply for PR.

no such option anymore, infact its very lengthy procedure if you dont have enough points..

Unfortunately it doesn't work in your favor. You need to work after completing studies in order to be eligible.

All the above plus study more about PNP options. You have some options without work experience: http://www.ontarioimmigration.ca/en/pnp/OI_PNPSTUDENTS_APPLY.html
