Hello,

I am unclear on whether or not this is possible: I will be eligible to apply for PR in the coming year either as a skilled worker or through the Quebec experience class (I intend to be a Quebec resident - so would apply through the Quebec skilled worker program if necessary). However, I am also simultaneously applying to study an advanced degree in Canada, which could take me 3-4 years (I am American).

My question is the following: I do not want to wait that long to apply for PR as I will be eligible sooner than the point that I start school but am I allowed to apply to PR through a skilled worker program if I also intend to study? I am under the impression that studying may invalidate my PR (even if I do intend to stay in Canada - but how would they know)...are there any other options for someone in this situation?

Thank you!

Yes - you can do both at the same time.

Yes - that's fine. I would strongly recommend you pick a school in Quebec for your studies. If you select a school outside of Quebec, you'll run into issues with your PR application since CIC will doubt you have plans to actually settle in Quebec if you are studying outside of the province. Other than that, you should be good.

Thank you, that is informative.
