Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone else has some experience with a situation like ours:

I am finishing up an 8-month graduate diploma at the end of this month and have a job offer for full-time work for at least the summer (possibly longer) starting on June 3rd. I intend to apply for my PGWP the very day that I receive my final transcript and grad confirmation letter so I can begin working right away, as my study permit allows me to work immediately at the time I submit the application.

In addition to this, my Canadian fiancee and I intend to apply for my PR soon (we could reasonably do common-law or spousal, but we don't have specific wedding plans yet), and this would be an inland application with OWP for me as my PGWP should only be for 8 months, not enough to keep me here and working the whole time.

My questions are:
1) is there some sort of conflict created in this situation? My understanding is this would constitute dual intent:
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio...esidents/visitors/dual-intent-applicants.html
which is not inherently a problem, but details on a situation like ours seem scarce.

2) Should the applications be made at about the same time, or should they be spaced apart for some reason? For example: get PGWP, work a month or two, then apply for PR?

3) Will this require multiple applications to change condition? (IMM5708)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

1. No conflict. Dual intent is really for entering Canada.

2. The PGWP is completely separate from the PR app. No spacing needed.

3. If applying for both the OWP and a PGWP, yes.

You can hold off on applying for the OWP now and just apply for your PGWP. You don't need to apply for both at the same time.

Thank you for the quick response! After re-reading the dual intent page I see what you mean. This helps a lot, thanks again!
