Hi All,

I am a Canadian citizen by birth who has lived outside Canada all my life. I'm planning to migrate to Canada with my fiancee. We are planning to get married in the next few months. Following are my questions, regarding getting my spouses PR.

We are considering going through the outland PR process. If she applies for PR while both of us are living outside Canada, approx. how long would it take and what evaluation steps would be involved in it? (E.g. Determining our intent to migrate to Canada, my eligibility to sponsor her)

Also, if I migrate to Canada, find a job and settle down while her outland PR is being processed will it help / expedite the process? If so, what is the best time for me to migrate (in months), from the point her outland PR is submitted?

Thank you very much in advance :)

As a Canadian citizen, you may sponsor your spouse while living outside Canada. You would however have to prove that you intend to move to Canada when she gets her PR. This can be hard, especially if you have never lived in Canada and do not have any family or friends. Proof of moving to Canada could include a job offer, having been accepted to a college, having arranged housing etc.

There is however no difference in processing time whether you are living in Canada or not. You can see processing times depending on visa office here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm/fc-spouses.asp
