Applying for open work permit - do I also need temporary resident visa?

Hi all! I was recently informed that I am eligible for an open work permit as part of the permanent residency process. I would love to do so as soon as possible but I am a little confused about the process. I do currently have a valid Temporary Resident Permit but it is only valid until March 24, 2013 and I have not yet submitted an application for a new one.

Under IMM5701E where is says "I am applying for one or more of the following" it lists these four options:
1) A work permit with the same employer
2) A work permit with a new employer
3) Restoration of temporary resident status as a worker
4) Initial temporary resident permit or extension of temporary resident permit

Obviously I don't need option 1. Do I just need to check option 2, or do I also need to check option 4 and extend my temporary resident permit as well? I'm not sure if having an open work permit would entitle me to legally be here as well.

Thanks for the help!

They told me to choose 2 because the extension of your resident will be automatically extend if you get work permit.

Excellent, that is exactly what I was wondering. Thanks for the reply!
