Dear all,

I am working on LMIA since past 16 months in Canada. I was somewhat not able to bring my family alongside me at start. Now, I want to apply for their (wife and kids) visas. I have a few questions if someone could respond, please.

1. Which visa category should I apply for them?
2. How would I connect my offer letter/work permit with their application?
3. Do I need to use my account to apply on their behalf?
4. Should I submit a single application for all of them?
5. How much time do they normally take to process such applications?
6. I have around 7 months till my current work permit expires. Is it better applying for the family now or after securing new job OR renewing the contract?

Your earliest response will be highly appreciated.

Thanks and best regards.

When does your work permit expire?
1. SOWP and study permits if kids are school age.
2. In the application
3. You can.
4. Each have own application.
5. Depends where they live
6. Renew with updated LMIA and extended work permit since IRCC will not process if within 6 months of expiry.

Thanks for the response.

1. One kid is 1-1/2 year and the other 4-1/2 years, so should it be visit and study permit, respectively?
2. OK
3. OK. In that case, do I need to show myself as a representative and apply on behalf of wife as primary and kids as secondary applicants?
4. OK
5. OK
6. If I get my current contract extended for six more months and I get a work permit of 12 months from now, then I think I am safe to apply for my work permit extension as primary and for family as well as secondary. But I have a question, if I get a new job while the application is under process, then can I switch the job??

1. TRV and study permit.
3. You can be the rep. Wife is primary and kids are dependants.
4. How are you eligible for work permit extension? Is new job with another employer? Do you have an updated LMIA? NOC?

Where is your family living?

1. OK
3. OK
6. I am working as a researcher with a professor (which is a temporary job) and he can extend my contract subject to availability of funding. As I said that it is a temporary job so I am looking for a new opportunity, which can come at any time once my application is under process. I hope you understand.

My family is in Pakistan.

6. So you would need a LMIA from another employer to apply for closed work permit. So this is a post doc position right now?

Wife and kids will want to show ties to return since your work is temporary.

Yes, I am a postdoc. No, the question is that

Should I go with extending contact with Professor for say 6 more months and applying for the visas (me extension of my work permit and for family as you mentioned the relevant categories). (Remember, I am actively searching new job, which I am not sure, when would I get)

OR

I get a new job first and then applying for all of us altogether.

BTW I could not understand "Wife and kids will want to show ties to return since your work is temporary.".

Thanks for your quick responses.

The issue with extending is a) are you eligible and if for only 6 months then IRCC may not process SOWP, TRV and study permit given processing times from Pakistan. You are a temporary worker so your family are coming as temporary student, visitor and worker so they will want to show ties to return. If your contract and WP extension is only 6 months then they want to show ties to return to home country.
