Applying for Canadaian PR while living in the U.S

I am a Permasnernt Resident of 40 years in the U.S but I am contemplating relocating to to Canada when I find employment.

I have descent work history in the It field, and I want to continue working at my job until I sort things out.

Can I apply for PR status for Canada while still living and working in the U.S ?

I've been separated from my wife for 3 years and because we get along fine, we never bothered filing for a divorce. Will that work against me in the process ?
