Hi, I will be applying for an IEC when the pools open with my girlfriend. We are residents of the Isle of Man which have GBR passports. When given the dropdown options to select where we live, there is an option for England and an option for Channel Islands - unfortunately the Isle of Man doesn’t come under either of these.

I’ve tried reaching out to them many times however I’m responded with a generic email that doesn’t help at all.

Does anyone have any idea what we can do from here?

When I look at this eligiblity page, it only mentions UK. I do see on the next page it mentions UK and Channel Islands.

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/work-canada/iec/eligibility.html

All I can suggest is keep searching and check other internet sources. It is /possible/ that if you just applied as if from UK - or from the Channel Islands (as analagous) it would work.

If you do try to contact IRCC, I'd try by phone - and mention that residents of Isle of Man have British citizenship, period, and that Canadians are eligible to work on the Isle under the Youth Mobility Agreement.

Good luck.

To the best of my knowledge you're excluded from applying since you live on the Isle of Man. I think you would have to see if you can go through an RO if you want to participate. But I'm not 100% sure of that.

I should note, I'm not claiming to have better information than @scylla here - and the fact that Channel Islands are mentioned elsewhere might seem to indicate you may not be eligible.

BUT: I've noticed over years - not with respect to Canada solely - that Man and (arguably to a lesser degree) the Channel Islands are simply often forgotten about, or when remembered, just lumped in.

The only specific factual argument I can make in this regard is that I believe the Manx passport (British with but with Isle of Man on cover) apparently has the same passport / country code, GBR, and hence the same citizenship as the UK proper - or at least should be considered same citizenship from the perspective of most Canadian visa purposes. (The fact that it may not be the case for some other things - eg customs or some tax things - doesn't in my opinion change that).

But then British citizenship is something I suspect one could write a doctorate about and still be confused, given the overseas territories and right/no right of abode etc.
