Applying for a Study Visa in Canada/LA

Questions regarding South African citizen with 3year multiple-entry Temporary Resident Visa (TRV):


1. What does a multiple-entry 3 year TRV (Temporary Resident Visa) entail?

- Is the TRV holder allowed to stay for 3 years without leaving Canada?
- Is the TRV holder allowed to stay for 6 months in Canada?
- How long would the TRV holder have to remain outside of Canada to be eligible for another 6month stay?

2. Is it possible to apply for a study permit from within Canada as a Temporary Resident VISA (not Temporary Resident PERMIT) holder?

3. Are foreign nationals allowed to do a short course of 6 months or less as a Temporary Resident Visa holder without a study permit?

4. After entry to Canada as a visitor with a TRV (Temporary Resident Visa), is it possible to go to the Los Angeles Visa Application Centre to apply a study permit (assuming the TRV holder has a visa to enter the states), return to Canada while the visa is in process and once processed, where must said visa be collected?

- Within Canada?
- At the Canadian POE (Port of Entry)?

5. Is the TRV holder allowed to list a Canadian address on the study permit application as a South African citizen (application made in Los Angeles) because parents of applicant are Canadian Citizens?

1-With valid TRV, officer at the port of entry will determin how long you can stay in Canada for, No doesn't mean you can stay as long as the TRV validity

2-You cannot apply for Study permit unless you are a spouse of a someone have valid study or work permit.

3- Yes, you can study unless you had a visitor record at the port of entry stating otherwise

4- I am not sure if I have good answer for this, but It seems to be up to the VFS in which you are going to apply through.

5- I am not sure here too, but I guess while applying for study permit in LA you can state that you are temporary resident of Canada and provide Canadian address
