Hello,

Am currently on a open work permit which is due to expire on the first week of January 2016. I am currently working as a contractor in a company. I have been working here for 1 year and some months.

My 2 years of job at this place will complete by the end of April 2016. I need to know if I can apply for a work permit extension.
I tried calling CIC and heard a notification saying you can get an extension of an open work permit to a maximum of 4 years.

As my 3 year work permit is expiring next Jan, can I go ahead and apply for an extension for another year so that I can complete my 2 year work there.
Or what would be the best bet in this case? I am currently sitting at 396 points on my EE profile.
Please advise.
Thanks in advance.

On what basis do you have an open work permit? PGWP? Something else?

Yes PGWP - Post Graduation work permit.

Got a 3 year work permit.
It is about to expire soon. Can i apply for an extension?

Have heard that we can get upto maximum of 4 year permit extension.

Am working as a contractor in a company. Am completing my 2 years of work in that company by the end of April 2016. But my permit expires on Jan 2016. I need to complete the 2 year experience to have my EE points increased.

Is it possible for me to get an LMIA?
Sorry but am just looking for ways for me to extend my stay so that I can apply for PR.
Thanks

Your employer needs to obtain an approved LMIA. You can then apply for a closed work permit tied to that specific employer. You can't get an LMIA yourself - this is something your employer must do.

If your employer is willing to obtain an LMIA, then they should start the process as soon as possible. It can take many months to complete.

If your employer is not willing to obtain an LMIA, then you should find a new employer who is.

Can my employer apply for a LMIA if I work as a contractor?

I work 40 hours per week but as a contractor there.

What are the requirements for LMIA?
What does my employer have to do for applying for a LMIA fr me?
