Apply for Canadian PR from the US (on H1)

Hello All,

I'm new to this forum. I want to apply for Candian PR under Skilled worker Program(Software Engineer). I also have my Masters degree from the US in Information Systems. Currently, I'm on H1-b visa in the US. Can somebody please direct me in the right direction to find the process for PR? I'm little confused with the process. Any help is greatly appreciated.

You will follow the same process as anyone else for applying for PR. The fact that you are in the us on an H1-B makes no difference. You can read about the process in detail here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/express/express-entry.asp

Hi Scylla,

Thanks for your quick response. I was trying to find my eligibility using the CIC profile evaluation and came across a question regarding language test. I took TOEFL test in 2010 before coming to the US but that was way back in 2010. On the CIC website it's asking for a date on which I took the test and when I enter the date which is Apr, 10, 2010 it gives me a error saying Your test results must be less than two years old when you apply. I gave TOEFL 5 years ago. Can somebody please give me a hand? Do I have to take English test again?

You have two issues:

1) TOEFL is not accepted as an English test for Canadian immigration purposes.
2) Even if it was, the test cannot be older than 2 years at the time you apply.

So yes - you have to take an English test again and receive the results before you can apply. (Language tests are mandatory for all applicants.) Note that only IELTS and CELPIP are accepted for English language.
