Has anyone experienced this? I am perplexed as to what happened.

I sponsored my mother for super visa from India. She has visited before on visitor visa (6 months stay at a time) and we have successfully extended her visa. She went back to India to renew her Indian passport and re-apply for Canadian TRV.

We applied for super visa with all documents - invitation letter, insurance for 1 year, medicals etc. She received the passport this morning with V1 visa.

Am I correct in understanding that this is the visitor visa for up to 6 months stay?

Should I return the 1 year insurance I bought or she should show that at the PoE and the officer might give her a longer stay?

Thanks in advance!

Yes - this certainly happens. Sometimes CIC makes the decision that they are not prepared to issue a super visa and they issue a regular visitor visa instead.

How long your mother will be able to visit will be up to the immigration officer she encounters when she enters Canada. Most visitors are given six months. However it's certainly possible to be given a shorter visit. She will need to make sure she has a return ticket when she flies to Canada.

The officer at the PoE will not give her more than six months.

You might need it. Any medical emergency in Canada without coverage will be extremely expensive.

Same issue. Applied for super visa but got V1. Did anyone overcome this issue?
It's up to the IRCC officer if they issue a super visa or a regular TRV. I'm not sure there's a way to "overcome" this issue. I guess you can try sending a case specific inquiry.

Based on one of your other posts, it looks like your mother has already used the visa to travel to Canada. If that's the case, I think it's too late to do anything about it. I think you would need to submit a new application.

I contacted them and they said they got visitor visa application. However, my application summary that I downloaded clearly says "visitor or super visa". How do I make sure I am applying for super visa if the only option I can choose is "visitor or super visa".

How long had you been living and working in Canada before your mother applied for a TRV? Looks like you may have only moved in 2021/22 which is probably why she received a TRV when she applied for the TRV in 2022. Were you able to show that you had earned LICO on your NOA when she applied for the TRV? LICO is based on income already earned in Canada no salary. If your mother has been visiting Canada for a long period of time and entered soon after you moved she should be returned home and be reestablishing her ties before applying for a supervisa.

My mom had TRV before and she visited once for three weeks. Her TRV expired mid 2022. I moved end of 2021. I met all the requirements for supervisa and more. I know people who moved to Canada and applied for supervisa in three months and got it. So I’m not sure. But I asked the visa office and they said they received a visitor visa application. But the new ircc portal has only one option to choose “visitor or supervisa” and I schiste that. It asked when is she entering and leaving and gave a good timeframe of a couple of years beyond the 6 months but within super visa limit. I’m not sure how I did not apply for supervisa.
