Hi Guys,

I'm concerned with some questions I can't seem to find an answer for. I hope someone can help me.

Applied for Spousal Visa within Australia in Sept 2013. 'Decision made' Early Dec, but no word on what that was yet.
My background, my partner and I have been together for over 9 1/2 Years. We have an Australian Defacto visa for the last 6 years.
We need to move to Canada ASAP due to his fathers health.

We are hoping to fly out to Canada in the end of March but I'm unsure how long the Visa process is from the stage that my applications at.
I'm guessing that the visa app will be successful due to the verification of passport form sent at the same time as my file status stating 'Decision Made'.

My Questions:

Can I enter the country as a visitor until this visa app is confirmed? I understand that I am not to work at all until this process is complete.
How can I do this as my visa app is in Australia at the Canadian immigration office? do I need to transfer the application to Canada? Who do I contact?

Also, can anyone let me know how long they waited for their visa decision confirmed, and the time they waited from when PPV forms sent to received visa paperwork, how long did you wait?

We really need to get to Canada soon to support my partners family. any advise will be so helpful.

Thanks for your time. :)

It sounded like you were applying for a visa to Australia at first..
Anyway, whatever address you put down on your application for the principal applicant, that is where the confirmation of PR will be mailed to. If a decision has been made, it is probably too late to change the address. So, if you come to Canada on a visit, which is fine to do, you might have to go to Australia to go pick up your confirmation letter.

I would suggest you giving your visa office a call. They can tell you about your application and when to expect your letter.

And no, the application doesn't switch office depending on where you go. It will stay in the visa office of your country of citizenship

Thanks for your help.

I can't seem to find a phone number to call the Australian office. I have emailed them but haven't received a response yet.

Or...Or, have someone in Australia, with access to your mail, send the COPR to you in Canada...which might be a bit cheaper. ;)
You could then flagpole to land in Canada.

Hehe I was tired when I wrote it. Didnt preview it :P
I would probably be so paranoid I went and picked it up. Worth the 3000 dollars over somebody in the post office losing it :P

If you didn't do an interview and there were no concerns CIC told you about in your app, then DM is pretty much a guaranteed approval.

But that's now 2 months and you still didn't receive COPR in the mail? That is very strange, as usually you should get your COPR docs within 2-3 weeks tops after DM. Not like they are sending it far either... from Sydney visa office to your Australian address!

Definitely call, email, or do whatever you can to get their attention on this, and find out where your COPR is. When did you do your medical exam? Hopefully it is still valid for a while.

So are you an Australian citizen, or some other country?

As long as your passport is visa-exempt to Canada, then it's no problem to "visit" at any time. If you come as visitor before you have COPR, make sure you never use words like "moving to" or "living" when talking to immigration. You need to satisfy them that you will leave within 6 months when visitor status ends. They also sometimes ask to see a return ticket dated for less than 6 months later.

Anyways hopefully you have COPR in hand before you leave in March, and can just land as a PR when you arrive in Canada.

So true!!!

Hi again,

Thanks for your info,I will get in touch with Sydney ASAP. :D

Medical done back in August, so should be fine for a while.

can anyone clarify the PPV form process for me. I was sent it on 25 Nov 2013, I filled in the Appendix B form that was attached and also stated clearly that my Passport is valid for 9 years. Sent it back on the 28th Nov 2013. I didn't send in copies of the passport as it is valid for 9 years and they already have copies of it. They didn't specify that I had to, just send the appendix B in with conformation that passport has not changed.

Is this right? I feel like I could of done something wrong. I'm getting a bit paranoid now. I'm sure I got it right, as I did read the email about a million times. :P

You mentioned you are in Australia on a visa so I assume you're not Australian. What country is your passport from?

Sorry,

I will clarify, I am Australian and my partner is Canadian. He is on a defacto visa with me as the sponsor for Australia.

Thanks again

In that case as a visa-exempt passport holder, your passport copy you sent was probably fine. You don't need a special visa stamped in your passport anyways, so all the Sydney office should be mailing to you is your COPR documents.

Make sure to keep bugging them until they tell you why you haven't got them yet, or if it was actually sent a while ago but delivered to wrong address they will need to re-issue them.
