Applied for my Sponsorship in April 2016, no contact from CIC so far, is it ok?

Currently I'm on the 2 year Open Work Permit that was granted by my Common-law Spouse PR application.

I'm wondering though, is it normal to not get any contacts from CIC for almost an year?

If they do contact you, is it usually notified via email, mail or just on CIC website?

yes, this is very normal for inland processing.

Do you mean no communication other than AOR (acknowledgement of receipt) of the application? If so, no worries that just means you had no issues with any forms submitted/supporting documents. Did you set up your My CIC account?
