Applied as a family, can we now ask IRCC to process our applications separately, as two single applicants?

We applied as a family in September 2019 from Brampton (Mississauga office).

Looking at how slowly this office is processing Family applications, pondering if we can now ask IRCC to process our applications separately, as two Single Applicant applications?

Has someone tried that?

You will have to withdraw and reapply but keep in mind if it's already in process, they will only refund you the right of citizenship fee.

I don't think processing as a family or as a single applicant makes a significant difference. I saw a September 2020 family of 3 (non-urgent paper applicants) received test invite a couple of back from MISSISSAUGA office (supposed to be one of the slowest offices in the country).

I would suggest against sending any communication about this to IRCC as it might confuse them as to what exactly you are trying to do and cause more harm than good but hey, that is only my opinion and the decision is obviously yours.

If you want to know the status, try applying for GCMS notes, send in a webform request or call them. I'm not even sure what "processing as single applicants" exactly means in the context of citizenship grant application. BG checks and other checks are done for all applicants whether they applied as single or as a family. "Applying as single applicant" doesn't have any particular advantage IMO.

Have you seen anyone make a request that the OP is talking about in the past in your experience? If yes, what are the prospects of IRCC accepting such a request?

I have personally not seen anyone request this to IRCC for their citizenship application.

IRCC won't split the application.

Your options are to either leave the application as is and you will all be processed together - or to withdraw the application and reapply again separately.

This isn't always true, if for some reason ( missed test, RQ or others ) IRCC will proceed with the other family member's applications and won't wait for the one having RQ or missed the test or has to go through hearing to process the rest of the family.

If we receive the necessary information and documents, applicants 18 to 54 years of age when they signed their application will be invited to write the citizenship test.

After the test, you or a family member may be asked to:

re-write the written test; or
attend a hearing with a citizenship officer or a citizenship judge
If this happens, we may process the other family members’ applications separately. This process might mean that they will attend an earlier citizenship ceremony and become citizens faster than the one re-writing the test or attending the interview.

We will tell you before we process your family’s applications separately. We will also send you a form that you can use to ask us to process the applications together. If you want the applications processed together, we will pause the other family members’ applications until after the second test or interview.
