Hi Guys, one quick question -

I am about to submit my passports to London VO. Do we also submit old passports that are no longer valid? I have two old ones. Any help appreciated.

Cheers

I think you just submit the latest passports that they will stamp the visas in. Expired passports aren't relevant.

No Wayne, even i thought the same thing and sent only my current valid passports. But 2.5 months after that they asked me to submit my old passports. Their letter said valid passports yet i am stuck

I have an "old" passport that expired 7 years ago - no idea where it even is I think we threw it away.

We're handing our passports in on Thursday, and we're only taking our current passports because that's the only ones we have.

So if any older people are emmigrating they have to submit 50 years worth of passports? Rubbish! :)

I have read the document they sent us twice through and nowhere does it ask for old passports, in fact it quite clearly says "passport" as a singular word:

Your application has reached the final stage of processing. So that your permanent resident visa(s) can be
issued, you must now submit the documents listed below. (These instructions do not apply to accompanying
family members who are entitled to Canadian citizenship, because they will have to travel on their Canadian
passports.)
1. Your passport and a passport for each accompanying family member. The passports must meet the
Passport Specifications on page 2 of this letter.

Perhaps they ask for these on a case by case basis if they feel they want to look at older travel history of applicants - but as standard they do not need old passports in my view.

Yes it's possible other visa offices operate differently, but we were talking about London visa office specificially for Kolhapuri, and in London's instructions there is no mention of bringing anything other than your current valid passport.

Wayne,

You are right. But that's the document that they can check your travel history. If an old passport has some evidence/stamp that you were deported from a particular country, how can they check?

I just can't see them asking for all old passports by default if the visa office letter doesn't ask for them.

Perhaps they may do a "spotcheck" or if they have any concerns - much like employment verification, that the reality is that they only do this with a small % of applications.

Anyway, I don't HAVE any of my old passports so no point in my worrying about it at this stage ;)

It is advisable to submit old passport/passports along with the new/valid one. VO, in majority of cases, asks for old passport if not submitted with the valid one. Might be because validation of travel history is required. My agent told me that I would need to send both old and new passports to avoid any delays or future correspondence. I have submitted both old and the new passport to NDVO. I have seen delay in issuance of visas in the cases where old passport have not been submitted and VO asks for it at a later stage. My point is, why take chances?
