Hi ane,

I asked my consultant about a similar situation. I want to go to Canada with my spouse (we are in a long distance marriage) to visit and decide on a place to settle once we get PR. Escentially he told me Canada accepts dual intent which makes it legal to apply for a tourist visa and go to Canada while PR is in process. However from the tone of his email I interpreted that it is very hard to get a tourist visa while you have a PR in progress since you have to prove you have no intent to migrate to Canada for the tourist visa. It can be done but it is very hard to succedd. However, in the event that your turist visa is dennied it will have no effect in your PR application.

In my case I decided not to try it since I rather save the money and visit a different country for vacations. If I was in your shoes and my spouse was in Canada I would definetly give it a try.

Just my thoughts/experice. I hope I am of some help.

Hai Seniors
I have a question related to spouse visit visa. I am here in canada since 2009 on work permit. My husband applied on oct 2010 and got rejected saying that he may not go back to his home country after the authorized stay. Now we are planning to apply once again in august. We have applied for PR on dec 2010 . I just heard that as our PR is on process they will not issue visit visa,it that correct? last time he didnot show any property ,this time we would like to show everything we have. VO is ND.

I have applied for PR in buffalo and still it is RBVO.........it's been 2 years and its tooooo muchhh ........being alone here.

Pls give me your valuable advice..........................

Shiv,

Congrats. It seems like Buffalo is doing something...

Hi Members,

I received an email from Buffalo VO to get my wife's fingerprints from RCMP yesterday. Status on E-CAS still RBVO. I am not sure how to go about getting the fingerprints in India. Does she has to go to Consulate or Local Police? Any help, would be really appreciated.

Thanks,
Shiv

Folks :) So we received the passports with maple leaves today :):):)

I'm yet to see the same, Prab is couriering it to me and I'll get to SEE it tomorrow.

Thanks for all your support folks!

This forum made it possible and I'm so grateful to all of you. This forum and family here are a 'God Send' for me and I'd definitely want to be in touch with all of you for many more years to come..

I never thought I could apply all by myself and be successful in the first place.. Most of you here know me as a 'Senior' and a person who knows so much about FSW and immigrating to Canada that she started her own blog on immigration experiences to help spread the info around.. Let me me tell you I was a very different person 8 months back when i discovered his forum. All i had then was a 'Dream', a secret dream to live in Canada for the rest of my life.

This forum and friends here, gave me the courage to face it alone. I took a couple of months break from work and ran around to prepare the application. Those months were among the hardest and most sleepless for me ::).. One hurdle after another non stop and I must mention my thanks to Anil and FMA for being around then to help me. For those of you wondering what I'm talking about, you might want to realize that I was among the very few people here with TOO MANY doubts and queries and so many silly fears but I did not hesitate to ask them here.. And yes, all my queries were answered right away and now my prayers are answered too..

I once again take this opportunity to thank every one of you for being around and helping people like me. This forum is all about people willing to help round the clock.

No, I'm not leaving this forum and family here :) I will be around until ALL of us get visas and then we will switch over to our fb group(Yet to be created). The NDVO specific fb group is up and running though :)

Thanks,

Indira Prabhakaran.

Congratulations dear Indira! :) Wish you and your family all the best in Canada.

I just got this from my employer in Canada (as I am in Canada) - I thought we will see a slight delay in mail or news coming in as no mail will be functional - if CIC uses Canada Post:

Notice: All University of Employees
Canada's postal service is on strike. Find out how this affects you.
How the Canada Post strike will affect you
The Canada Post Corporation and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers failed to reach a deal on negotiating a new collective agreement. As a result, the postal workers began a strike and will not accept, process or deliver mail to you effective 11:59 PM EDT Thursday, June 2, 2011.

This will affect you if:

you are submitting an application for temporary residence or wish to extend your status
you are submitting a new application (permanent residence or citizenship) or missing documents
your status is about to expire and you have not yet submitted an application to extend your status
your status expires during the strike
you are now out of status
Submitting an application for temporary residence or extending your status
If you are already in Canada and wish to apply for a Study Permit, a Work Permit, an Off-Campus Work Permit or a Post-Graduation Work Permit, or you wish to Extend Your Stay as a Visitor, you are strongly encouraged to submit your application online. Find out how to complete an online application.
(...)
Your status is about to expire during the strike.

If your temporary resident status (e.g., as a worker, student or visitor) is about to expire, you should ensure that your application to extend your status is received by CIC before your status expires as shown on your immigration document. If you do this, your period of authorized stay as a temporary resident will be extended by law until a decision is made and you are notified. In this case, you are considered to have implied status as a temporary resident during that time, as long as you stay in Canada.

Note: “Implied status” only applies if your conditions do not change. For example, if you apply to renew your study permit and the permit expires before you receive an answer, you can continue to study in Canada until you receive a decision. If you hold a work permit, you may continue working under the same conditions as your previous work permit while on implied status if you have applied to extend your stay in Canada as a worker.

As a temporary measure, if your status is about to expire during the postal strike and you cannot use online applications or courier services to extend your status as a temporary resident, CIC will grant you an implied status for the length of the strike. In that case, you will be given a one-month grace period after the strike to submit an application to extend your status without having to restore your status.

(...)
Processing times and application status

Please note that the estimated application processing times in Canada available on the website may be longer than expected given the interruption in mail services. You may be able to view your application status online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please be aware that our automated voice response system at the CIC National Call Centre may also be able to provide you with information about the status of your application.

You have already sent your application but it might not have arrived before the strike.

If you have submitted an application and you are concerned that it might not be received because of the postal strike, you should keep all of your receipts, which will be an indication that your application is in process. If the application is urgent and it meets CIC's criteria for urgent processing, you are advised to re-send your application via courier and request a refund on your original payment after the strike is over.

Find out more about how the strike is affecting processing times, your application status and fee payments.

Thank you 4key,

Eventhough I know the postal strike will affect our PR application and all other temporary visa applications, I did not expect CIC will post this on website. Thank you for finding this and posting this on our forum.

It will affect international applicants also because as far as I know CIO, Sydney uses Canada Post to transfer PR applications to VISA OFFICES

thanks again
