The Canadian Government have announced their intention to make changes to the Federal Skilled Worker Category and are currently accepting feedback and opinions until March 17, 2011. The changes will be aimed at increasing the emphasis on language skills, giving preference to younger applicants, reducing the emphasis on work experience, tackling fraudulent applications and offering greater incentives to trades people, technicians, and apprentices.

Canadians more positive towards immigration than US and Europe

According to a poll released last Thursday, Canadian attitudes toward immigration are hardening but Canada still remains more positive attitude as compared to other Western nations including the US and Europe.
The annual survey, done by a Washington-based think-tank, looked at public perception of a wide variety of immigration issues in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain. And it maintains that Canada is the most welcoming nation to the immigrants who want to live and work in Canada.

Around two-thirds of Canadians agreed that people immigrating to Canada have been successfully integrated into their society. The statistics show that respondents who felt in 2010 that immigrants helped create jobs by establishing new businesses down is down from 75 per cent in 2009 to 67 per cent in 2010. And the proportion of Canadians who thought immigration "enriches" culture by bringing in new customs and ideas slipped from 65 to 60 per cent. However in both cases, the numbers were significantly higher than those from the US and Europe.

The majority of the survey respondents from the US (73%), the UK (70%), Spain (61%), France (58%), and the Netherlands (54%) believed that their government was doing a poor job in managing immigration. Only Canadians were split, with 48% feeling positive and 43% responding negatively about their government’s handling of immigration to Canada.

Delancey Gustin – the author of the 2010 Immigration Public Opinion Survey said that Canadians are quite positive about immigration and they seem to be less bothered by issues of immigrants taking away their jobs leading to lower wages. She also stated that Canadian government policies and more importantly Canadian geography drive public attitudes.

Congrats dr.....

Moving Ahead... 8) 8) 8)

In ahmedabad when reissuing of my passport ..................
............So ask for some of the alternatives like these available in ahmedabad.
Rupal

The PCC procedure goes like this -
It has to be issued either by RPO or by Police Commissioner Office (PCO). PCO may give a different name to it, but the purpose is same. The rule for PCC through RPO is same ........ all over India ...... even if they take help of their sister concern (by any name .... PSK..etc.). They charge Rs 300/- per PCC. If the PP has been issued within last 1 year... one may get PCC within 1-4 days... depending on RPO. If more than a year ....one may get with in 1-10 days ...depending on the RPO workload and your approach .... ;) .... this is through RPO .... remember even this actual procedure demands for your police verification check through commissioner office ...... ::)

Through PCO .... the charges depends (from Rs 500 - Rs 700) ....BUT definitely not Rs 3000/- ...... :o :o .... thats ridiculous :-[
And they should give you PCC with in 6-10 days. Have seen many people getting it on the same day ..... Don't have to approach anyone ....... but if you know someone, work will be done faster.

Honestly PCO is anytime better than RPO ....... there won't be much hassle. The only problem is the documentation ....simple but slightly more compared to RPO. It also depends from RPO to RPO (as correctly pointed out by Indira) ....
So if someone has problem at their RPO.... please approach PCO and find out their procedure ... AND apply for PCC accordingly. .... Hope this helps ...

Cheers, Anil

Either the number of applications submitted to CIO has dropped or they are just more efficient. Whichever way, it is good to see the waiting period for AOR drop to below 80 days. I believe if they can drop it to 60 days the whole process shouldn't take more than 8 months. Unfortunately, we are the guinea pigs and we can't enjoy the benefits. Nevertheless, I don't believe the process will take more than 6 months after receipt at VO except London and Buffallo VOs who seem to have to much on their plates. Lets just hope that we will be waking up to a new year somewhere in Canada.

Day by day...CIO is streamlining their process. As one applicant got PER in Just 75/77 days. I am sure that JAN/Feb 2011 applicant will get PER in around 60-65 days max....

Lets see...

Mayank
