Dear all forum colleagues and members of the boat sailing to canada,

Today I woke up in the morning at 7 am with a call on my egyptian line from the canadian embassy in egypt. I have just opened my eyes out of deep sleep reading the caller id :o I had to shake my head and answer the call immediately and a lady saying hi, is this Amr ... ?? I told her yeah thats me :) She proceeded telling me that it's the canadian embassy calling to inform me that they will send a letter by dhl today to ask for my police clearance of egypt and qatar and for the medicals as well and I should be expecting it today or tommorow. I was crazily happy to see them communicating this way which raised my fear that they are checking on me and my way of speaking. No matter what happened did not distract me from asking about the so important question demanding a real significant answer about the police clearance expirey date for the qatari one which is a country I have worked by for a year and a half. She simply asked me " when did you do your police clearance of qatar ? " I told her in december 20th 2010 and her answer was " As long as you have done it after you left the country then it should be fine " and she finally informed me that I should translate the police clearances .

This is was my morning of today which I loved to share as long as the story can cool down the concerns about many of the people here :))

Regards, Amr

I imagine they call early in the morning so they can catch people at home before they go to work, if they want to make sure they can speak to the applicant.

Then IMHO the 2nd AOR might be by e-mail instead of snail mail. Cheers and best of luck. Keep us posted.

These days I am quite low on morale to migrate to canada, as most of my friends and friends of freinds are "really really" struggling to get a job there. Most of them who quit their existing job and migrated, are now doing survival jobs, finding hard to earn mere 1500-1800 CAD.

Chicken ~ Egg game is played there. No work cos of no local experience and no experience because no work is being offered.

Donno, if it was a good idea to choose canada over AUS?

Hmm dunno I imagine it depends on your profession.

For example I am a software developer, specialising in Microsoft products and have many professional Microsoft certifications. Since Microsoft products are worldwide I cannot see my needing local experience in order to secure professional work in Canada. However, I can see some professions requiring local experience and even re-training and having to do fresh Canadian qualifications.

I think it's probably very profession-specific at that point though.

asaif probably worth checking your ECAS status m8! :)

Although linkrink got his PER a few days prior to you so it could take a few days, I would certainly keep a sharp eye on it ;)

I agree its very profession dependent. I am a primary care doc in the US and what they r showing me is that they r desperate for docs in certain areas of Canada. Not just far isolated ones but also populated places like Toronto, Ottawa and Vancouver. I hope they r right.

Hi Mayank,

Sent you a PM. waiting for your response.

Thanks

Well my wife subscribes to Monster.ca searches and judging by the number of developer jobs she keeps getting sent I don't think I'll have too much trouble securing work, once we get the visa that is.

Securing work without a visa with LMO/TWP is, of course, another matter!

It is no problem going ahead with the PR application. Things change and sometimes they change very quickly. It is good to have something to fall back on. The best way is not to move lock stock and barrel at once but in our case, i will move there and look for a job and then my wife and kid will follow.

Well i did consider getting a TWP as i was offered by a few places. But thought it better to apply to apply using FSW and then see if i really want to move there once i do get it. Oh well lets see how things go.

maybe london applicants are going to get 2nd aor with the medicals!!

That was my hope for both London and Buffalo. It only makes sense- if they have the highest number of applicants why wouldn't they make their life easier and speed the process for us by simply skipping one formal step in the whole process?

Let's hope that London is waking up and that Buffalo is next!

Well I missed posting that currently I am not in egypt but in toronto :) So 7 am my time here goes for 2 pm egypt time with 7 hours difference. I have had always my egyptian line on roaming and on with the highest ringing volume since I had my AOR. I woke up on the " TAKE that, Rule the world " tone with head spinning :) So now I am still thinking why would the canadian embassy call me on my cellular phone to tell me that they are sending mecials and pcc request by dhl ! ! I was expecting them to ask me background questions. I am happy they have called anyways and happy too that they informed me in person about my case :)
I am wishing you Wayne and all london, buffalo and damascus applicants getting your medicals soon and I am expecting it in a week or two for you all. Cairo VO has been the slowest in the world according to previous processing times before and after 2008 regulations and all whats going on now is a proof that post june applicants are of highest priority to complete feeding canada with needed professions on the spot. This is supported by reports speaking about professionals not working for their professions in canada and also by bridging programs to aid international graduates soon be licensed with canadian expierence and move the wheel of the economy with selected careers :)

Yeah it's great news and a huge surprise for me to :) They have called 2 pm egypt's time and it was the line of the canadian embassy in cairo. I am not sure if they called any of my employers and they haven't asked me a single question about my work nor anything except informing me of the letter for medicals and pcc to be sent by dhl.
Wishing you, engy, canady and all of cairo office be on the run soon :)
