Guys,

I asked HSBC regarding BD process & they informed me that when the beneficiary (CIO in our case) presents the check to his bank (HSBC Toronto in our case), it takes about 2 weeks to be cashed & then 1 week for my local HSBC branch to know that info.

Summary: if CIO requests the cashing of a DD check on 1-september, i can know nearly on 21-september ;D

When I phoned HSBC last week, they phoned their "service centre" to check if it had been cashed. Since it is HSBC guaranteed I cannot see it taking 2 weeks to clear!

Anyway I promised myself I would phone the bank once per week to check, so I will phone them again tomorrow lunchtime.

We had a scare last night, got back to find a missed recorded delivery for my wife, we were quite scared it was our application returned, but turns out it was some tickets to a fashion weekend that she had won! Whew.... ;)

Perhaps add a column on the spreadsheet for whether the payment was CC or Draft? Then we can start to tell when drafts are getting cashed.

I am going to check with my bank on Friday.
Wayne.

Hi, thanks for adding the column.

Guys there is now a column for your method of payment (CC or BD) - can you please add your method of payment then we can start to tell when the first banker's drafts are reported to be cashed?

Thanks,
Wayne.

dear Cappucino,
what do u mean by "Since it is HSBC guaranteed I cannot see it taking 2 weeks to clear!

thanks

A banker's draft is guaranteed funds, which means the bank you are cashing it into doesn't need to wait to hear if the cheque will bounce or not. I do not know for sure, I am just speculating that I don't believe 2 weeks to cash a draft is realistic. A personal cheque takes only 3 full working days and a draft in theory should be faster.

When I phone the bank tomorrow if it hasn't been cashed yet I will ask them how long it would take from the day CIC take it to their bank.

theory speaking, BD is like cash, that means when you paid cash to buy bd, the bank already took your money and sold bd to you, the deal already finished between you and bank. bank doesnt own this bd anymore. so bank doesnt have the interest to track the bd. i dont think you get any information about the bd after you sent the bd to Cio. i dont think anyone in the forum who paid by bd can track it. i think you guy who paid by bd may be already cashed by CIo. no worry, as long as you havent received the returned application pack within one month.

thanks for reply..i have seen one reply by respected member Qorax...He has said that bank draft is encashed within 48 hours...thanks

Also they will probably take a bit longer than CC on top of the 48 hours, because when CIC decide to charge a credit card they do it there and then. When they decide to cash a banker's draft someone has to physically take it to their bank. I imagine they put them in a pile and someone pops to the bank at various intervals (1 week maybe but not certain) to cash a load in one go.

Anyway I will check tomorrow and report back if it's been cashed!

Hi Indi,

Same Pinch, for me there was a lady who wanted to do everything according to the rule, which means more than one month for the correction, I was literally begging in front of her but she was all no no especially when I mentioned the purpose. Finally I had to ask the panchayath president to put a word ( by the grace of god he was related to my husbands colleague ) the lady sweetly agreed to give it by 3 pm on wednesday. Once somebody infulential intervenes the rules are all " gone with the wind".

Thanks Anil and blue ray

Hello Rae74,

True.. I'm back in Chennai now but the certificates will take as long as 15 days to get delivered i guess. They are asking for a notary certificate in addition to a VAO and Tahsildar certificate, and after providing these, they will consider for a correction and it might take more than a week. After this is done, we need to apply for a fresh certificate to be issued with correct spellings. I'll go next week again for a followup into this. As of now, i'm confident on receiving the passport reissued in 3 days as per the passport office's promise(Tatkal). Let's see..

Fingers crossed :-X :-X :-X until we are ready to launch the application.

Thanks,

Indira Prabhakaran.

Hello, everybody. Hope you are all doing well and look forward to receive the positive answers from CIC.
Maani, you will be fine, don't get upset with the return of your docs. This just means you have another try. Just do it!

For those updating spreadsheet - I think there is an typo on line 46. The date apllication received cannot be 26/09, especially if CC charged on 09/09.

As for me, docs are stil on their way and the payment methods will be CC.
