Hi,
I am Arun, I have applied for student visa from Newyork embassy. I have dropped my complete file on 27th September for Univesity of Calgary, for Ph.D in Pharmacology. I did not received any update from the consulate yet even it was completed 30 working days. Could any one please let me know how many days it will take for the processing? Is any other alternative way to reach the conuslate people ? if so could any one please provide me the details regarding it. A person at the consulate informed that I will recived an Email once the application is finalized but I did not receive any mail from the embassy. Will the consulate people will email after finalizing the visa?? please share any of your experince.

Thanks!!

Hi Arun,

As I understand that you have applied for a student visa, I want to let you know that you are not in the correct thread. This is an immigration thread. Please check other threads for any info.

Thanks,
Satya.

hi satya,

amazing, but would you tell me how long after you sent the passports did you send them the email? coz the letter with the PPR actually said that enquries with in 45 days of sending the passports won't be replied to. I sent my pp on 17 oct and need them back urgently to fly back to india to prepare for my landing. in fact my ecase was updated with dm and canada address days ago, but no sign of passports. do you think i can send them an email?

My passports were received on Wednesday, October 31st around 3 pm and I sent an email the same day at 8 pm. :) I saw in my passport that visa is stamped on November 1st. :)

I think, you should send an email.

Thanks,
Satya.

Dera Mitali,

I would prefer repeating my medical instead of going to Canada next month!!!!!, what is the procedure if i want to enter later and repeat my medical? any suggestions? the reason that i dont wanna go there is that im studying in Germany at the moment and cant leave the university now, at all!
I would prefer to go to canada at least 5 months later.

For starters, you must send the passports, even if it accompanies a letter requesting re-medicals.

Any deviation from what visa office is asking for can result in the failure of an application, and once an application has failed it is a royal pain to get them to reopen it, even if you're not at fault.

Technically the re-issuance of medicals is at the visa officer's discretion since "about to expire" is somewhat relative. Realistically nobody could argue against the notion that 5 days is not sufficient notice to book and make a trip to Canada in order to land.

However, if you COULD manage to land without retaking your medicals then this would all be signed and sealed and done and dusted. Until you are a landed resident, you are not a resident at all even if PR is granted. You have no idea how the rules will change and personally I wouldn't feel totally safe about my PR status until I'd actually landed and it was confirmed.

Germany to Nova Scotia is a 4/5 hour flight. You could do a quick landing trip within a single weekend to validate your visa and return to Germany on the next flight. Ok it would be tiring but it's a one off and then you'd have up to 3 years before you had to go to Canada again (since you only need to stay 2 years out of every 5 to keep your PR status).

Think of all you've invested time-wise into this application. For the sake of one hectic weekend it may be worth landing in December if that's a possibility?

My 2 cents,
Wayne.
