Hello Every one,

I am totally confused and would appreciate any assistance.

My sponsorship application to sponsor my kids (10 and 9)as a NON Resident Canadian are almost ready with me, Some friend of mine told me that I must file the Income Tax return prior to the submission of the apps for my kids.

I have been living in the UAE for the past 4 years and havent returned to canada and nor have filed my taxes, now the tax lawyer in Canada is asking to pay 6K CAN$ for the income I have earned in UAE, can someone please assist me if i really have to file my tax returns as a NON Resident Canadian prior to submitting the sponsorship application and if this would really effect the status of my sponsorship.

Would really appreciate any help in this regards,

Maroof

I think you should consult with another tax lawyer. If you are not living in Canada, as far as I know, you do not have to file taxes in Canada.

You are allowed to sponsor your dependent children even when you are living outside Canada because you are a citizen. You do not have to prove income but you do have to prove that you are planning on moving to Canada when they get their PR.

When you move to Canada, then you will have to file your taxes.
