I have heard and seen different requirements for applying for residency.
At present i am in the British military and have been for 20 years so have about 2 years till i retire to civilian life.
I have been married to my better 1/2 for 15 years and she is a Canadian citizen by birth, she was with me for 10 years in Europe and returned home to start settling back into Canadian life.
What i was informed of is i can apply for residency as long i will be out of the country no longer than 2 years out of 5, which after approval (i hope) i will be well under that requirement.
Some advice and info would be greatly appreciatted.

Your wife would have to sponsor your for permanent residency. After you get it, you will have to stay in Canada 2 out of every 5 years to keep it. You can start reading here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/spouse.asp
