We applied for inland spousal sponsorship in February, CIC received it on February 13th and just this Friday we found our entire application returned to us into our mailbox as we had missed one of the forms being updated during the process of our applying. It was 100% our own oversight and we're so frustrated that we missed it.
Now from here on is my question, have we basically "lost our spot"? Are we back to square one? The letter they sent us had a UCI on it, my question is when we resend everything including the updated form, are we looking at 10 months from now again? Or does the fact that we sent it in February hold any significance at this point? Much appreciate anyone's input....thanks

It's difficult to say because your entire application was returned to you. Typically when your entire application is returned to you, once you re-submit it - it's like you're submitting a brand new application from scratch from a processing time perspective.

Did they not email you asking for an updated form . That is pants, so sorry to hear that . Ridiculous to send it all back. What did the email say. I would call to see if you have to pay again and start over.

If they issued you a UCI, it is likely they will hold your spot for you upon receipt of your updated forms and full application again. I obviously can't promise you that, but if they included a UCI that means they have entered some/most of your information into the system already to generate that UCI so it is likely that they will hold your spot.

This is the first contact we have received from CIC since we sent our application in February. I also don't understand why they couldn't hade just asked us to send in the updated form :( But it was our responsibility to be 100% accurate which we failed to do and there is no one to blame but ourselves :/
Thanks for your feedback

That is my fear in this case. So frustrating that we could be back to square one after all this waiting just over missing one form being updated :(

When they sent it back did they mention in the letter to send it back to anyone...IE an officer at the CIC office? If they did you won't loose your spot. When you send it back they will look at it again and you will not have to wait the time again. If they didn't do that and just said to send it back to the CIC office then sadly yes you will need to wait again.

That would be the best case scenario. All the other documents and forms in our application have stamps and dates from CIC on them so I was half-hoping that meant that the remainder of the application has been processed. I'll try and call them today to ask. This is such a hard pill to swallow! Thanks for your response.

No, the letter enclosed with our application didn't have any information like that, just a UCI at the top of the letter. It just said that the entire application needs to be resubmitted. I just can't believe I have wasted 5 months of my life sitting around waiting just to be told that I'm back at square one! So frustrated with myself and this situation.

If they gave you a UCI number then you most likely won't have to wait however many days it is now for SA

So sorry to hear that. It may seem like you have "lost" 5 months, but my experiences with CIC tell me this is not always the case. The same thing happened with me when I applied for PR a few years back(different application I know). They returned it 2 months later due to gap in personal history. Like you, I was disappointed, felt I will be at the back of the line again. Long story short, at the time we re-submitted the application, the CPP-O pilot program had just begun and my file ended up being transferred from Buffalo, NY to Ottawa and it took less than 6 months to get PR. Perhaps, if my file was not returned, I will have remained in the "regular group" for which processing was I think 13 months. Sometimes we don't immediately understand why things happen or see the positives, but overtime we eventually realise it all worked out for our good.

So cheer up, redo the form and cross-check all other forms to ensure they have not been updated as well. Re-submit and go about your life enjoying your time with your spouse and kids(if any). It shall be well. :)

I tend to agree with this. They should also have sent a form telling the OP to re-submit the package within X days, to maintain their "implied" status in Canada.

I agree as well. I think this is a "start from scratch" situation.

OP - where are you from? Maybe outland would make more sense for you at this point?

Yes, I didn't receive anything like that, just the cover letter saying that I have to resubmit everything.

I'm from Ireland but I am out of status right now as I had sent an OWP permit with my application before my last work permit expired but as it has been sent back I guess that means I don't have anything allowing me to stay here for the duration of the Outland application?
