Application in Process = Passport Expiring in 6 Months

Hello everyone

My application under CEC is currently in process from more than 6 months now. My passport is expiring in December 2025. Do I renew my passport proactively or wait for any update on application?

I read somewhere that Passport should be valid for at least 6 month throughout the processing of application. Seeking your advice.

Have you looked into passport renewal options while in Canada? It can often take some time so it may be a good idea to start the process now.

Hey I am in a similar situation. My AOR is Jan 10th and passport expires in June 2026. Haven’t received BIL yet. What did you end up doing in your case?

In your case(assuming you are a CEC), Passport validity doesn't seem to be related to the application at all. You can renew your passport as that's something you should be doing regardless. If you were outland, that would've been a different conversation, but even in that case people renew their passports without worrying.
