I got my work permit approval and we decided to travel to Canada for start working. My family (wife and kids) were still pending of decision for the Temporary Resident Visa and they enter as Visitors. (we applied for an eTA for my wife and kids)

We passed the boarder with no problems and the agent gave me my Work Permit paper. Yesterday I got also my SIN number.

Today, IRCC sent us a message about an update in the application. Our surprise was that they had cancelled their applications. Do you know what does it means? May we apply now for the TRV from inside? I read it is not possible. My wife has also a Job offer starting in 3 months and she wanted to apply for the Work Permit from inside. Can she do it as a Visitor?

Please, our situation is desesperate because I should be working next week and we also arranged the starting day in the school for the kids.

Thank you in advance.

They don't need TRVs and I'm not sure why you applied for TRVs. They only need eTAs to travel to Canada. This is why the TRV applications were cancelled. It makes sense the applications were cancelled since they were unnecessary.

No, there is no need for them to apply for a TRV from inside of Canada.

Your wife can still apply for the work permit as planned.

Once your child gets towards the end of the six months allowed visit, you'll need to apply for a visitor record and to extend your child's status in Canada.

When I started my Work Permit application they asked if some member of my family were coming with me. That's why they started the TRV for them... If it was not necessary, why did they do it?
And, Can my wife stay with this status (Visitor Tourist) until my Work Permit finish (in 18 months)? It does not make much sense for me....

Maybe I should visit some Inmigration Lawer. Any recommendations in Toronto or North York?

Thank you all!

I can't answer the first question. All I can tell you is that your family only needed an eTA to enter Canada.

Both an eTA and a TRV only allow a person to enter Canada for six months - they are no different in that regard. Once that six month period is over, a person needs to extend their status. If someone holds a work permit, there is no need for them to extend their status as a visitor. The work permit gives them status in Canada. So if your wife obtains a work permit, there is no need to extend status as a visitor. Your child needs to extend their status (this would be true regardless of whether your child was here on an eTA or TRV). If your wife does not obtain a work permit, they she will need to extend her status.

I have never worked with an immigration lawyer and don't have one to recommend. This forum is paid for by an immigration lawyer and you may want to reach out to them for help.

Thank you again.

So, what I do not understand the difference between an eTA and TRV. It seems the same .... Do my family have access to the Health System Insurance as a visitors if I have a Work Permit?

My wife will apply for the work permit from inside. Where does she must give the biometrics? Here in Canada or back in Spain (our country of citizienship)?

Thanks!

- eTAs are for people who are from visa exempt countries like your family.
- TRVs are for people who are from non visa exempt countries.

That's basically the difference.

Please I have a question.
I applied for study permit and during the application applied for my kids temporary visa but surprisingly their application was returned cancelled. I applied from outside Canada. What could I have done wrong please

Sorry for the insistence, but your answers are very helpful and it's hard to find this information.

About my family:

- entered as a tourist visa with eTA. How can they be linked to my Work Permit to access public health insurance?

- If my wife applies for a Work Permit as an Employer of specific work exempt from LIMA and never gave biometric data, where should she give the fingerprints? Is it accepted to do so on Service Canada sites?

Thank you very much again.

I don't know the answers.
