Hi I'm a bit new to the whole 'immigration' procedure and just wondering what could be expected after submitting an application for my common-law partner's pr. What sort of approval procedure must our documents go through? Mainly, I'm wondering if we should be contacting primary family members/friends who are listed on the application (in terms of people we've met together as a couple, etc) and letting them know we're in this application procedure. Does the approval procedure include contacting any of these people for 'verification' of details? Should they be aware maybe they need to answer questions/verify anything about us, or is the application entirely internal to the information we will submit?

Thanks!

They don't usually contact anyone mentioned in your application, but they could. The only time I have heard of anyone being contacted was when the visa officer was suspicious and contacted family members to see where the applicant and sponsor lived. The visa officers can also make a field investigation to check info, but I've only heard of that happening a few times in China and Vietnam.

So it is possible they will contact someone, but very unlikely.

to be on the safe side u could tell them that their names appear in ur application and for what it is...it is good if family & close friends r aware (these questions could be raised in case of a future interview and u need to be prepared); in the forms u give only their name and address in some cases not phone numbers, i don't think the vo's would actually call them unless there r some serious doubts (never heard of it though)

BUT for common law u will need at least two statutory declarations from family/close friends abt ur relationship and continuous living together for at least 1 year...it would b better if these letters would b from both the sponsor and the applicant side and also it's better if u would have more than 2 testimonials (they don't need to b all notarized)...usually in these letters people would give their name and some means of contact (email, phone number) and yeah maybe they could b called to confirm what they wrote or maybe more (but noone mentioned it on this forum ::))
