Are there any people here that were on study or work permits before getting PR?
I just want to know if processing or interview experience was any different?
Did CIC ask for additional documents related to time before PR in Canada?

No you just have to prove that you were in Canada with legal status, and that time will be credited @ ½ time to a maximum of 1 year before PR.

Sure, I was both a visitor and a temporary worker before becoming a PR. No real difference.

As PMM said, you get half credit for the days you spent in Canada before PR (this is credit for citizenship purposes we are talking about).

I got my pr in 2005 and applied in 2008 for citizenship.but later I cancelled my petation b'use I did not want to loose my original citizenship.I was physically present 4 years in canada.
Now my pr card expires in 03-2010.I m now willing to apply for citizenship again.

Could it be possible just after i get my new renewed pr card????

should i file new application for citizenship or i can request CIC to start old application???would they doubt my case?

1. You have to start a new application.
2. As long as you have 3 years residence in the 4 years prior to the date of application you can apply anytime. Note the processing takes about 12-15 months.

if someone stayed in Canada for several months as a visitor, then left for a few months and returned back, will it count as a ½ time?

Yes, as long as it was in the 4 prior to the date of the application. The time as a visitor would count.

No, as per my previous post, maximum you can get is 1 year credit. So you would have to have 2 years as a visitor and 2 years as a PR to to equal 3 years for citizenship.

Hi, I was in Canada for a year on a Student Permit and half a year on a Visitor's Pass/ TRP while waiting for my PR papers to come through. In that time I left the country for a 3 week vacation.

Upon receiving my landing papers the lady told me that my entire year as a student won't count towards citizenship because I had left the country for 3 weeks. Is there anywhere on the CIC website that supports that? I can't find anything on it and I really want to know when to start counting so I can apply for citizenship.

The lady was wrong. Use the citizenship calculator on www.cic.gc.ca http://services3.cic.gc.ca/rescalc/resCalcStartNew.do?&lang=en
