Hello Guys,

I have a question. I have just finished my masters in Aerospace Engineering from Quebec. but the Quebec degrees section in AoT just shows Aerospace Engineering (Bach.) and doesn't have Aerospace Engineering (masters) in the list. Can I claim points for doing my masters in Aerospace Engineering in Quebec?

And a friend of mine has a similar problem, she did her bachelors in Philosophy and Psychology (both part majors) and her Masters in Management studies in Marketing. Can she claim her AoT points for Marketing (bach.) from foreign degrees ( Since there is no Marketing (Masters) in the list) or will she have to claim AoT points for Philosophy and/or Psychology (Bach.) ?

Can someone please help us out as we are really confused. Thanks
It is a good question and I don't have a definitive answer but here is what I know.
Referring to the "Guide des Procedures d'immigration" GPI 3-1, the following paragraph existed until the January 2015 edition:
"Un diplôme universitaire de cycle supérieur à celui indiqué à la Liste des domaines de formation est évalué de la même façon que s’il était de même niveau de cycle. Par exemple, un DESS en administration des affaires au Québec doit être évalué, en vertu de la liste, comme un baccalauréat en administration des affaires"

It basically says that a higher degree is treated the same way as the degree listed in the AoT table. So your Quebec Aerospace MS would be given the same points as the Quebec Aerospace Bachelor in the table (=16), but of course you get additional points for the "Level of training". The same applies for your friend, where she should get the points corresponding to her "Area" of training even if it corresponds to a bachelor in the list. (there's another paragraph that says that people who have two degrees are free to choose whichever one will give them more points).

Now, as I just mentioned this paragraph was removed in the January 2015 and subsequent editions, and as far as I can tell, they didn't replace it with any other information relevant to this question. My guess is that you'd still get the full 16 points but I'd make sure I have more points than the threshold just in case..
I hope this helps a little and good luck!

Hi,

I am considering applying for the QSW program.

I have difficulty with the Education/area of training aspect because the thing is I do have a Bachelors degree in Recreology (Recreation management/foreign) and I also now I have a Post-Graduate Certificate from George Brown College here in Toronto (which is higher up, you need a Bachelor degree/diploma to be eligible) and I completed it in 1 year.

I studied sport/event Marketing at GBC. I see the area of training is Marketing and Purchasing (Bach.) So I am confused, the (Bach.) part confuses me but I did study Marketing. I kinda want to put my Canadian education because I guess it would look better.

When doing the assessment what should I put for HIGHEST completed education and Area of Training?

So please share experience and solutions.

Hello

I have a Masters in Information Technology from UEL, London. My NOC is 2171 and my Bachelors is Liberal Arts.I have been working in the same area of NOC 2171 for the last 10 plus years.

Do I have any chances of applying under the QSWP with priority under the Areas of Training?

I believe the answer is YES. IT might be considered under computer science.
