Forgive my ignorance but what does AOR stand for?

When we submit an outland spousal application will we get a AOR?

Or will the first correspondence be our sponsorship approval?

You will get sponsor approval first (letter to the sponsor). Then AOR once file has been sent to local visa office doing the processing AND once they have opening it to give you a number. In some cases it happens immediately upon receipt, in my case for Moscow it was almost 2 months and some even longer than that. Look at some people's stats processing through the same local office as you to get timing you could expect.
