Mississauga received our application on 07 March and sent the AOR email today, the 15th of March. I'm very impressed with turn-around time, but I am concerned by the AOR. It lists the applicant's (my wife) maiden name, and not her married name. She changed her name after our marriage and has used her married name for nearly five years now.

Is it usual for Immigration to use the applicant's maiden name?

I tried to log on with the UCI that we were given in the email, but it doesn't work. Does anyone know if there is a bit of lag time between the AOR being sent and the UCI and website being activated? I was surprised that the AOR email was sent out on a Saturday, so maybe the website isn't updated on a weekend?

Thanks a lot.

What is your wife's name in her passport? If it's the maiden name, then don't be worried. CIC goes by whichever name is the passport, not the name she uses.

Also, it will take about a week before you can use ECAS.

Her passport name is her married name, but there were copies in the file of her old passports in her maiden name. The copies were included as they show all of our trips between Canada and the Philippines as a married couple. The application itself is clearly in her married name, so I'm not sure why they would have entered her maiden name.

Have you tried calling the call center? Maybe you can ask them how you can correct this.

I have, but I am overseas in Qatar, when I call +1-888-242-2100 I keep getting partially through - I get to "You call cannot be completed as dialled". I'm wondering if there is a different number for calling from overseas?

No, the number can only be reached from Canada. But if you own a smartphone, download the app called Magic Jack. You will be able to make calls for free to Canadian and US numbers (land line, mobile, call center). My husband and I are also residing abroad and we could successfully call the CIC call center with this app. All you need is internet access.

Very interesting re: Magic Jack. Didn't know it before, may have to try it too. I do know that the call centre 888 number will not work on Skype, unlike 888 numbers that I regularly call for free on Skype. I also have Viber & even credit on gmail, haven't tried either of those yet but hoping one will work when needed (when I'm abroad).

It is an outland application, and yes, I nearly fell over when we got an AOR after only 8 days, and the email was sent on a Saturday to boot. I'm not complaining mind you...

Majic Jack, eh? I'll give it a try later. Thanks for the info.
