U can extend if its is a out of ur hand situation e.g u applied for renewal of passport...u can also ask CIC to divert their PPR request to your residence country but it vl consume more time..
My suggestion is to go ahead with ur journey and when u get PPR then just comeback and send ur passport ...that will be the safe n fastest way..u can again go back once u get ur passport stamped back....it vl b costly but safer i think...

In my case one of my relative has done it for me and charge is 5 CAD.

How much time does it take from "BG in progress" until PPR?

There is no stipulated time. Some get it same day as the BG goes in progress, some have to wait months.

I hope this week brings good news for everyone who has PPR pending.

looks like u almost there. I am aor FEB 29, BG IN PROGRESS around JULY 19, still w8ing until now.
