Anyone who entered Canada and has "goods to follow" household items? I entered Canada today and wanted to declare goods to follow that will be shipped via container ocean freight. But customs at the land based border told me that they cannot stamp or process any documents as studies is not considered a permanent settlement but that I would not have to worry. I was told to submit my study permit to the shipping company and that they would use it to declare my goods at customs when the container arrives.

Dies anyone have experience with this?

Study permit holders generally do not have to go through the formal import process as long as all of their goods will leave Canada when they do.

I understand the conceptual reasoning behind this but how does it practically work? Any idea? What will the customs house require once the container arrives? And what happens if I later on apply and be approved for permanent residence via provincial nomination? Not that I plan to do so currently but just want to make sure this option remains on the table.
