I landed in around 7-8 months ago.

Fairly basic, nominal procedure. First point of entry the canadian border official will check your documents, later they'll tell you to collect your baggage and then keep them outside the immigration office. At the immigration queue, a settlement officer will meet you and provide general overview of services available to immigrants and provide a pamphlet. Then you'll be called to the immigration desk where you'll sign your COPR and other documents in presence of a Canadian official. After that, you'll go to the nearby cashier and tell the officer present there about the amount of cash you're carrying. Then, you'll go on to exit the airport. Very routine procedure.

One thing I'll flag you about is that the officers may refuse to stamp the 'goods to follow' documents, make sure that you get that stamped as well as jewellery photographs (if you want to bring in any such item of value). Canada is a very problematic country as far as its tax and customs rules are concerned.

How long did it take for you from the first point of entry?

1-3 minutes? we were 5 passengers in the family. This is not something you should be worried about.
